Jumbo Hostel

With natural resources depleting quickly, nothing should be wasted. Consider a jumbo jet. What can you do to save a jumbo jet that is due to be sold as scrap metal? Why not turn it into a hostel?

A Swedish entrepreneur by the name of Oscar Dios did exactly that. Dios stuffed 85 beds into a gutted Boeing 747 and dubbed it Jumbo Hostel. Parked right outside Stockholm’s Arland Airport, it contains 25 rooms equipped with  air conditioning, WIFI, toilets and bathroom light fixtures with a stunning view of the runway.

To all parents out there. Do you have problems with your kids’ bad habits of chewing up pencils? Well…fear no more, a rather innovative company actually came up with the idea of selling pre-chewed pencils.

No kids want to actually chew up pencils which looked rather nasty. This way, that will actually prevent them from chewing the pencil. For you entrepreneurs out there, this is just one solution. There could be many more ideas. Maybe coat the pencil with a nasty flavour that leaves an unpleasant after taste.

With the amount of stress that you have to endure everyday, I am sure sometimes you feel like smashing things up to release all the tension that is building up. The only thing that is stopping you is the thought that you might just end up in jail.

However, there is this place you might just be able to do a lot of smashing without feeling bad for doing it. Introducing Smash Shack,  a place where people are allowed to let go, let loose and go home with a smile on their face.  Like a restaurant, they even have a menu with a selection of things you can break.

How interesting. I am sure we can find a market for it here.

Halloween costume is not just about dressing up as your favourite superheroes or supervillains. Now you can even dress up as your favourite politician. Not too sure how many people actually wants to dress up as Obama but it seems that sales is quite encouraging according to Wal-Mart.

What do you get if you combine old containers with innovation? You get “Container Homes”. With the amount of containers being left to rust after they have lost their usefulness, there are stacks and stacks of metals that can be recycled.

An innovative company manage to give these old containers a new life by turning them into groovy and practical homes. This concept can be easily adapted in most countries making it a low cost but comfortable homes. This idea is superb in my opinion because not only it is not difficult to adopt but by doing so, we are helping mother nature to clean up waste.

Diamond from Human Ashes

Man-made diamonds aren’t new. They have been synthesized in the lab for some time. However, a company called LifeGem has come up with a unique twist on diamond creation using ashes (both human and animals).

This company is targeting people who want to leave family members a lasting memento, one that’s beautiful and one they can wear all the time. Dozens of stones can be made from one individual. The size selection is currently 0.25 to 1.3 carats, but the company plans to offer larger diamonds in the future.

This is an area of business where you can definitely create a niche for yourself.

Love greeneries and plants. Now there is a way you can make sure that you always have a plant with you 24/7 without looking silly carrying a potted plant around. Introducing Pet-Trees. Pet-Trees are the latest craze from Japan. Each Pet-Tree is actually a real living plant inside a tiny plastic bell jar with a keyring attachment.

Just not too long ago, they had Pet Stones. I wonder what’s next.

Energy-Booster Eel Juice

It goes without saying, with a little imagination and willingness to break away from the norm, innovative ideas could be the end result.

A new drink called ‘unagi nobori,’ or ‘surging eel,’ made by Japan Tobacco Inc., was launched in Tokyo just two days ago. At US$1.30 a bottle, the fizzy, yellow-colored drink contains extracts from the head and bones of eel and five vitamins (A, B1, B2, D and E) contained in the fish.

Many Japanese believe eating eel boosts stamina in hot weather. It’s mainly for men who are exhausted by the summer’s heat. I guess Livita and Red Bull will have a new competition in town.

In many parts of the world, many people especially women are going ga-ga over grooming. In the quest to search for the ultimate indulgence, many innovative products has spawned, ranging from skin-eating fish spas, acne cures, wine bath and caviar facials to maintain their youth.

Now, an Israeli health and beauty spa has introduced a new treatment to its menu — snake massage. For about $70, clients can add a wild twist to their treatment by having six non-venomous but very lively serpents slither and hiss a path across their aching muscles and stiff joints. California and Florida king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes are used in treatments.

I wonder what will be next. Using human excretion as facial cream ingredient?

Dinner in the Sky

F&B business is always tough an owners are often faced with tough competitions. Therefore, throwing something different might just give you an extra competitive advantage. Instead of offerring cozy tables in a restaurant for dinners, how about offering something more unique to draw in the crowd an charging a premium for it.

A restaurant in Belgium dangles from a crane at 150ft above ground level. It comes complete with dining chairs, table, crockery and a slick-suited water. This concept will definitely drawn attention from the rich and adventure-hungry people who yearn for something a little more different.
